Ramblings from a motel in PEI
**UPDATE: We were able to escape PEI this morning after nearly 24 hours of waiting. But here are my ramblings from last night.**
Winter has arrived. It’s full on. Never once did we consider the possibility of a closure as we crossed the 13-kilometre Confederation Bridge into PEI. And now here we are in a run down motel after waiting over 12 hours to cross the bridge back to New Brunswick. With wind ripping at over 100 km/hour, it’s just too sketchy for a tall lady like Big Blue to cross. So we’re stranded along with the semis until things die down. On the plus side, it’s much warmer in this motel than in Big Blue. We discovered today that snow could slip through cracks in the windows with big gusts of wind. That was fun. But the guys came up with some inventive ways to insulate the van which will come in handy as make our way back to BC. Let’s just say, thank god for duct tape.
Fortunately Prince Edward Island is a lovely place to be stuck. Everyone here is ridiculously nice. One lady that we met in the morning came back hours later to drop off handmade mittens for all of us. That’s what I’m talking about – a smile and say hello as you walk down the street, strike up a conversation with anyone kind of place. We had killer show at Baba’s Lounge in Charlottetown on Tuesday (a most raucous Tuesday, indeed). Plus crossing that bridge was incredible.
The Maritimes in general have stolen my heart with its great scenery, delicious beer and seriously friendly people. We made some good friends here. And saw some old ones too. Huge kudos to Sonja and Alicia for being such awesome hosts in Halifax!! It was a big highlight and a turning point in my cat tolerance. I might just be turning into something of a cat person. Crazy, I know. The little furry buggers are growing on me.
We crossed the 2-month mark of the tour recently. What wild ride this has been. Jer and I are dreaming about living in Montreal - although if we ate smoked meat sandwiches and poutine like we did during those few days we would not last long. Best acoustics of the tour? That would be Mugshots, the super old prison-turned-hostel in Ottawa. It was beautiful and creepy all at the same time. So many memories made. And close to another month to go! We’ve been quite lucky with everything so far but now things will get interesting. By this time next week we’ll be in Winnipeg, chilling in -20 conditions. We have just three days to cross half the country to get there. Quite the change up from our jaunt over in September. But we’re coming back to the Rose N Bee on Nov 23 to play with the rocktastic Mobina Galore and Corey + Joe, so the trek will be well worth it. Here’s the facebook event: http://on.fb.me/1cHOLkg
Windsor. So close to Detroit. And yet so far.
Schwartz’s in Montreal. Delicious.
No poutine can ever compare. Yep, most of our time in Montreal was spent eating.
Peggy’s Cove, Nova Scotia. Blown away.
Our beloved Blue had a temporary break down in the maritimes. Got a tow to Amherst by an old Nova Scotian power couple.
The drive over Confederation Bridge was lovely. Getting out however..
In other news, we’ve announced a homecoming show! Corey, Joe, Jer and I will be teaming up with our pal Colby Morgan for a night of debauchery at Electric Owl on December 18 – tickets are cheaper in advance so get em here ;) (http://ticketf.ly/188V2bO)
